What Type of Learner and Thinker Are You?
by Veronica JoceWe spend so much time trying to figure out what we want in life. What goals to chase, what dreams to pursue. But there’s a question we often overlook: How do we learn and grow in a way that’s authentic to us? Most of us don’t realize that how we learn, think, and process the world around us is key to designing a life that feels intentional, meaningful, and aligned with who we are.
Imagine that every choice, every lesson, and every challenge is an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply. It’s not about finding the right answer—it's about learning to ask the right questions. Are you someone who thrives in hands-on situations, or do you need to see the big picture first? Do you process the world through images, or do you find clarity in conversations?
The connection between how we learn and how we think is profound. If you understand these elements about yourself, you can tailor your approach to personal growth, productivity, and success. The combination of knowing how you take in information and how you process it unlocks your full potential to create a more intentional life.
Types of learners and thinkers
visual learner
If you're a visual learner, you see the world through images, and your mind works best when things are laid out in front of you—clear, organized, connected. You might also be a creative thinker, able to see patterns others don’t. You thrive in environments where you can visualize ideas, map out your thoughts, and find clarity in what you can see. This is how you bring ideas to life.
Tip: Try The Life Designer Journal to create the vision for your life, or get creative with Night Notes and Notes to Mindfulness journals. And if you need a reminder about what truly matters or a visual boost of inspiration, try Mindful Affirmations.
auditory learner
But maybe you’re an auditory learner, where sound is your gateway to understanding. You process information through listening, and that’s how things begin to click. Paired with analytical thinking, you’re the type to break things down, listening for the clues that help you solve a puzzle or map out a plan. Conversations, debates, and talking through problems might just be the key to understanding the world around you.
Tip: Listen to conversations with our favorite change makers on The Intelligent Change Podcast, or start meaningful, life-changing conversations yourself with one of the editions of Get Closer game.
kinesthetic learner
For kinesthetic learners, it’s about doing—about experiencing life with your hands, your body, your actions. You don’t just want to know about life—you want to live it, touch it, feel it. Paired with practical thinking, you don’t waste time on what-ifs or theories. You dive in, ready to figure out the solution through action. You trust that the process will teach you more than any instruction ever could.
Tip: For all the doers out there, let The Five Minute Journal, The Three Question Journal, or 3X Happier Journal inspire you to embody who you truly want to be and help you leave your comfort zone.
reading/writing learner
And if you’re a reading/writing learner, you absorb information best when you’re putting pen to paper or diving into a good book. Paired with strategic thinking, you’re the person who loves making plans, sketching out strategies, and organizing your thoughts. Writing things down helps you process and reflect. You see the big picture, but you know how to break it into manageable steps.
There’s a reason why so many thinkers—no matter their learning style—turn to writing. Writing is how you take the intangible, the abstract, and make it real. It’s where vague ideas become goals, where dreams take shape. By writing things down, you shift from a reactive mode to a creative one, where you become the designer of your life.
Tip: Our productivity tools—like The Productivity Cards—give you a framework to prioritize your day, allowing you to focus on what matters most. Every time you write down your goals or your tasks, you’re taking abstract thoughts and turning them into action. And that’s where real transformation happens.

Learning isn’t just something you do when you’re young. It’s not just something you do in school. Learning is a lifelong process. It’s how you remain open, adaptable, and curious in a constantly changing world. And if you ask us, there’s one more category of learners: the lifelong learner.
Lifelong learners are defined not by how they learn but by their commitment to continuously learning. A lifelong learner doesn’t wait for the right moment. They create it. They understand that growth isn’t a destination, but a continuous journey.
The lifelong learner is always asking, “What can I learn from this?” They know that every experience—whether it’s a challenge, a success, or a failure—is an opportunity to evolve. They don’t shy away from change; they embrace it. The lifelong learner is always willing to adapt, experiment, and take risks because they know that the only constant in life is growth.
Understanding how you learn and think is like having a roadmap—one that guides you toward becoming more intentional, more aligned, and more fulfilled. So, take a moment. Write something down. Sketch a plan. Ask yourself: How can I think better? How can I learn more? And, most importantly, how can I design a life that feels meaningful, purposeful, and completely my own?
