A NOTE FROM THE INTELLIGENT CHANGE TEAM
With each product we create, we recommit to our sustainability journey by approaching every material, ingredient and production partner with curiosity and a desire to learn and grow. Through this, we have discovered innovative ways to walk with a smaller footprint and will continue to do so, with gratitude.
We created our Impact Report to offer a transparent look inside the manufacturing decisions and worldwide charitable initiatives that shaped our sustainability journey to date. Take a read and provide us feedback on ways we can improve.
We look forward to learning and growing together.
In 2022, Intelligent Change offset over a million kilograms of emissions.*(1,048,728 kg CO2)
Offset projects function in different ways. Some remove CO2 from the atmosphere, for example, through reforestation projects, whilst others prevent further CO2 emissions, for example, through the expansion of renewable energies. In addition, projects promote the economic, social, and sustainable development of the region. Each of our projects are certified according to international standards.
Our sustainability priorities are shaped by three areas of focus, positively influencing how we work and the products we create.
Carbon Offset
Offsetting CO2 emissions is an important step in effective climate action, alongside avoidance and reduction. As of 2022, our company operations and The Five Minute Journal are certified carbon neutral as a result of offset projects with ClimatePartner.
Each project we support with ClimatePartner is carefully selected based on the project's ability to provide tangible positive impact, thus ensuring that they improve the lives of local communities as well as the climate.
Philanthropic Projects
We partnered with global organisations ClimatePartner and World Land Trust to reduce our carbon footprint as well as support selected environmental projects.
ClimatePartner is a leader in corporate climate action, with almost 20 years of experience and worldwide expertise. They help companies calculate and reduce their carbon emissions and offset residual emissions.
World Land Trust is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats. World Land Trust funds the creation of reserves and provides permanent protection for habitats and wildlife.
For years, we have been committed to give 1% of our profits, 1% of our products and 1% of our time to make a difference in the world around us, locally and internationally. This is the minimum and we often go beyond these requirements.
Manufacturing and Materials
We carefully select our manufacturing partners in their ability to create with luxury materials made sustainable.
We work with suppliers worldwide, including UK, Germany, Italy, USA and China. All of our suppliers have a high level of ethical and social credentials such as Sedex1, BSCI2, ISO 140013 and FSC4. They also adhere to the Principles of the UN Global Compact, which is a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.

Projects We Support
Soil regeneration with Arizona Muse's DIRT Charity
5% of every purchase of Intelligent Glow Face Oil is donated to DIRT, a UK charity working globally to turn fashion into a climate solution, starting with the soil. DIRT's story started with Arizona Muse, the founder of DIRT, a model for over twelve years who became an extremely passionate environmental activist after unravelling the truth about what really happens to the planet and people who make the clothes she was indirectly helping to sell.
Permanent habitat conservation with World Land Trust's Buy an Acre.
Habitat loss is the greatest threat facing wildlife worldwide. Healthy forests are the green lungs of our planet. Intelligent Change supports World Land Trust’s Buy an Acre project, which saves habitats at risk from deforestation for agriculture, cattle ranching, and unsympathetic development, and ultimately become nature reserves which will be protected in perpetuity. Buy an Acre funds are currently supporting land purchase in Argentina, Brazil, and Kenya. To date, World Land Trust has funded the protection of over 2,409,420 acres.
Supporting indigenous peoples to avoid deforestation.
As the biggest REDD+ Project in Colombia, this initiative protects 1,150,200 hectares of tropical forests Mataven, Colombia, safeguarding its biodiversity. It provides education, healthcare, sanitation, food security, nutrition, and further social benefits for 16,000 indigenous people. In support of ClimatePartner.
Protecting women and children with clean drinking water.
This project provides access to clean drinking water to approximately 102,000 residents in Tete, Sofala and Manica provinces in central Mozambique through the use of borehole technologies. The provision of clean water replaces the need for water purification at open fireplaces in households. This, in turn, reduces carbon dioxide emissions generated by the combustion. In addition, diseases caused by air pollution at open fireplaces, to which women and children in particular are often exposed, are avoided. In support of ClimatePartner.
Carbon offset and plastic waste cleanup for ocean protection.
This international carbon offset project uses solar power to produce renewable energy and reduce plastic waste from entering our seas. Every tonne of CO2 offset enables the Plastic Bank initiative to stop 10 kg of plastic waste from entering the ocean through plastic collection. It involves the installation of solar PV modules in the three Indian states Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. In support of ClimatePartner.
Material Innovation Highlight
In 2022, we introduced a pioneering method of cotton sew binding in our journals and planners. By replacing a single thread of synthetic material we were able to...
Responsible materials, intentional products.
HOW WE CREATE OUR PRODUCTS
Our newest products use 100% recycled, compostable, and FSC™ certified paper. No trees were cut down to create virgin paper to make our products. Our journals are bound in 100% cloth based natural fabrics like cotton or linen that don’t contain synthetic materials such as polyester or plastic.
Alongside material decisions, we believe products must first be designed with efficacy and innovation in mind. By creating products to best fulfil their intended purpose, we are taking responsibility for their performance and impact before, during, and after their useful life.
To achieve this, our products are made from materials that are durable, low-impact with minimal waste, can be fully recycled or returned to the land for compost at the end of their life cycle.
